We're not the ones you're never going to hear from again.

Whether in person, over the phone, email, or video conference, we go out of our way to make ourselves available to you. In other words, you have ongoing access to us – not only for investment advice, but also for advice relating to your overall financial picture.

Investment Choices

At CameronDowning we use Exchange-Traded Funds (ETFs) and individual stocks and bonds in client accounts. A typical account is an allocation of ETFs which track an index.

Stop Orders

When appropriate, we use stop orders in client portfolios as a downside risk mitigation tool. A stop order means that there is a sell order in place for that position at a specific price. If the ETF or stock trades down through that price, a sell order is triggered and that position will be taken to cash.

Tax Considerations

All investing has to be tax-conscious. Within a retirement account, trading does not give rise to tax concerns as all gains and losses are deferred until distribution. In a taxable account (individual registration, for example, or Joint Tenants) we do tax loss harvesting, meaning we periodically sell off loss positions to make the funds more productive elsewhere, and perhaps match those sales with sales of gain positions.

Riskalyze

We will give you a risk tolerance assessment using Riskalyze, which is a powerful software that generates a risk score for you. This gives us a good idea of how to allocate your funds among the various asset classes. Everyone is different – some people can tolerate very little investment risk, and are content to merely keep up with inflation. Others want big gains, and are able to tolerate a lot of market volatility for a (hopefully) higher return. Most people fall somewhere in the middle. In other words, what can you live with, and what would keep you up at night?

Long Term Relationships

You can expect a transparent process from the beginning. After opening your account and investing funds, we establish periodic and consistent review meetings over the long term to ensure that your portfolio allocation is fully aligned with your stated goals.  We make ourselves available as a resource for any financial questions or concerns you may have.
